How Kampung Health Radar works

Every week the Communicable Diseases Agency (CDA) publishes a Weekly Infectious Disease Bulletin: dozens of tables and charts written for specialists. This personal experimental project reads those bulletins and answers three everyday questions: What is going around? Is it getting better or worse? What can I do?

Where the numbers come from

How the 3-month outlook is made

The outlook starts from the average of the last three weeks, follows the usual shape of the same months in past years (2012 to 2025 for dengue and respiratory visits, 2023 to 2025 for HFMD), and continues the recent direction, fading it out over time. The darker band is where the number should land about half the time, and the lighter band about 8 times in 10. Both were set by testing the method on every earlier week of 2026. A wide band is a real signal: this year's mid-year dengue surge arrived with little warning. Adding past years through Add data sharpens the seasonal pattern automatically.

"What if we act now?"

The sliders use a simplified rule. Each round of infection shrinks in proportion to how much you cut the spread, after a short delay (about 2 weeks for dengue, while existing mosquitoes and infections run their course). Some cases, such as infections caught overseas, cannot be prevented this way, so we keep 15% of cases untouched. For flu, the action applies only to the share of respiratory illness caused by flu. These are illustrations for planning conversations, not predictions of any specific programme.

Why the map is illustrative

The bulletin reports national totals only. To show what a neighbourhood view could look like, we spread each national number across the 55 URA planning areas by approximate resident population and age profile. HFMD leans towards areas with many young children, and flu and COVID-19 lean towards older estates. For dengue we add a mild weighting for eastern and north-eastern estates and landed-housing areas, where dengue clusters have historically been more common. None of this is real 2026 local data. Switch the map to national figures with the toggle.

Colours compare each area's estimated rate per 100,000 residents with a typical week for Singapore (the 5-year median CDA prints). Moderate is within 20% of typical, High is 20–60% above it, and Very high is more than 60% above. This is why a quiet year for dengue shows mostly pale colours, even at its peak.

Flu jab guide

The flu jab guide puts CDA's public advice on flu vaccination next to the bulletin data. Flu right now uses weekly flu positivity, with our own bands: Low is under 10%, Moderate is 10 to 24% and High is 25% or more. When flu season usually comes uses polyclinic visits for coughs, colds and flu in 2012 to 2019 and 2023 to 2025. We leave out 2020 to 2022 because COVID-19 measures changed the usual pattern. Am I due? and Travelling soon? follow CDA's September 2026 advice, the national adult and childhood immunisation schedules, and CDC advice for travellers. They run in your browser: nothing you choose is saved or sent. Vaccine dates, prices and CDA updates come from data/flu-updates.csv.
